Theodosius Theodosiev
Teodosii Teodosiev is one of the most distinguished and respected physics teachers in Bulgaria for more than 40 years. He runs a specialized school of applied mathematics and physics for which he has created a base for experimental physics problems. Theodosiev is the author of textbooks and hundreds of scientific articles on physics.
The school, founded by the teacher Teo in Kazanlak, trains students who win medals at international physics Olympiads. His graduates achieve high results thanks to his special approach to teaching, which includes the creation of experimental physics problems.
About Theodosius Theodosiev and the School
The National School of Physics of Teodosii Teodosiev dates back to 1974, when the young teacher started working in the established only 4 years earlier „Nikola Obreshkov“ – Kazanlak.
Theo attracted the interest of some of the students to physics with his different approach which eventually evolved into „Methodology for Forming Power Intelligence„. His method quickly proved its effectiveness after several people from his first team (see photo) qualified for the 10th International Physics Olympiad in Hradec Kralove, Czechoslovakia, from where Petko Dinev returned with a gold medal.
In his school Theodosius Theodosiev, not only conducts theoretical classes, but also collects and makes available for the use of his students physical literature, maintains a huge base of theoretical problems and tries to maintain and develop a base for experimental problems and classes. The school also allows other teachers, even students, to conduct their own classes using the already established methodology.
During the school year, weekly classes are held (divided into two groups of younger and older students), and during the rest of the time Theodosii Theodosiev organizes summer camp-schools in physics at the base of the Kazanlak Municipality in the Panitiki area near Kalofer. Hikes and nocturnal sightings are also organised at appropriate times.
There’s a song by Vladimir Vysotsky called „Ballad of Childhood,“ and it starts out just like this, „Thank you,“ he says, „for making my parents wish to conceive me. A man is born a debtor, owing two lives to his mother and father. So we are born debtors and we have to pay back our debt all our lives. Well, it is also desirable to add something else. And I’m eternally grateful for having come across the right parents I’ve been lucky enough to come across the right parents and I’ve got something. Just as Jesus said, „Freely you have received and freely give, so I tell my disciples.“
This rarely happens in our time, in the time of consumerism everything seems to revolve around getting financial benefits. Well, I had a director for many years, Mr. Dino Karagyozov, who used to say a man is as he is in arithmetic fraction. The numerator is what gives, the denominator is what takes. So the more one gives one becomes a bigger person, the more one takes one becomes a smaller person. He who takes nothing from society – a saint, say, who has no consumption, his value tends to plus infinity. While another who does just the opposite, only takes – its value tends to zero. It is the big personality that gives a lot…gives as much as possible and takes as little as possible.
Did you like going to school?
Well, my brother and I were dreaming about the first day of school because my dad was providing work for us for the whole, absolutely the whole vacation. every possible day off provided us with work until 11:00 pm. Technical work with lathe, power tool, cutting and so on and we were left standing. So a family of four children to support And that’s why I used to study my lessons at school, because I know that at home there won’t be time then there will be: ‘Iron is forged while it’s hot’ So my father taught me to organize myself so that in a little time I can absorb a lot of information, because at home there won’t be time. And the upbringing of the old people who are described by Ivan Hadzhiyski in his domestic spirituality of the Bulgarian people.
This has been for centuries and that is why the Bulgarian people have survived. And if it loses these values, it will naturally disappear. And did you have favorite teachers in school. I had a lot of favorite teachers in school. Kostadinka Dimitrova, she is still alive, may she live and be well. She taught me in the primary grades. She was very young then and we were still small children. She has taught me to read and write since first grade. Although my father had already taught me to read and write by the age of five and a half. He also gave me math problems. I was a kid who didn’t go to school. At the age of five and a half, I was learning how to set up an equation and how to find a common denominator.
There are high IQ specialists who have said that a child should learn to read at five and a half, if not to write, at least to read. And by the ninth grade he must have read at least 1,000 books with 600 pages each to accumulate a conceptual apparatus. An empty brain cannot make a great discovery. There were Indian tribes with a 13 -15 word language. Well, obviously you can’t make a great civilization with that, with 13-15 words. Great nations, cultured nations, have a language that consists of hundreds of thousands of words, and first there must be a vast array of information that comprises a civilization thousands of years old.
And that teacher who was your favorite in school, how did she motivate you to read? I was reading way before I started school. And when my mother took me to the library „Iskra“, I was another little person who didn’t reach the counter there, but my mother was very pleased and proud when they made me read some passage and saw how well and smoothly I read. When I was still 5-6 years old. So these are the first steps, which are very important. And then I had a lot of favorite teachers at school. One of my favorite teachers was in biology – Mr. Dimov, he had made a wonderful vivarium – aquariums, animals… I had an electronics teacher, Stefan Dimitrov…
How were these teachers different from others? My physics teacher, who died at the age of 96-97, although it is said that teachers did not live long. But she used to say, „One learns while one lives.“ This is the division of my physics teacher – Sultanka Valkova. And her other favorite expression was that a person is 99 out of 100 blind. It was about how many things it doesn’t see or hear, for which it has techniques, and thanks to its intellect it manages to acquire additional tools to see and hear things that other animals can’t hear or see.
What is the most important skill you have NOT learned in school?
There are many things that I have learned in schools and there are many things that one has to teach oneself, in these tens of thousands of books, there is nowhere. Thomas Edison only went to school in the first grade. He was self-taught and made over one thousand two hundred inventions, became a great inventor. So the purpose of school should be to teach one to learn. And many people say, „But what is that for?“ It is necessary-it is necessary to learn to study. Because the present students will have occupations that we don’t even know about yet, and if one doesn’t learn to learn new things, he becomes just a loser, he becomes a useless person. He becomes just one of those billions of people who will just disappear at some point.
What did you dream of becoming as a child and what inspired you to pursue that dream?
Oh, I dreamed of many things. I want to become Robin Zon Crusoe, live on a desert island, I had started to build a ship to fly to the moon. Then I wanted to become a biologist, I had vivariums, aquariums…I wanted to become a great artist…And eventually I dreamed of having a profession where I had a lot of free time so I could create. To be a free artist, not to be an artist by work or a writer by work, but to be a free poet and a free artist who makes art for the beauty of art itself.
And were you able to achieve that?
Well, an acquaintance of mine used to say, „Hopes are bovine.“ So one thinks one thing, then another happens. For example, that teachers had a lot of free time. This turned out to be a big illusion. Leisure time, that’s up to the individual. A lazy person has a lot of free time, he organizes it himself. And a man who is programmed to work can’t have a curved time. And my father was very indignant when a classmate of mine had said that he wanted to kill time. It’s the worst possible thing to do, given that your time is finite and one day you’re going to die anyway and go kill something that is finite and disposable…
What does success mean to you? What is a successful person to you?
Well, it is defined by failure – failure is having something and not being able to have it. Buddhists have a saying – „To be happy one must either have everything or want nothing“ and since one cannot have everything, the option of wanting nothing remains. One is happier the less one wants. And there is a minimalist movement in America – I sympathize with people who are of the principle that you can live with much less. This is the opposite of consumerism. Because consumerism is – „I want over-consumerism – everything at once, I want everything in the moment. This is the hedonistic culture.“
It is very fashionable now – when you have no money, you take a loan and do whatever you want.
The biggest consumer in the body, this is cancerous tissue. Cancer tissue poisons and kills everything else by consuming a lot. The characteristic of a cancer cell is that it consumes much more than the others, and consequently releases much more toxins. These are the poisonous people and they can be world class politicians who proclaim this way of life. But this is anti life as well as anti environment. And all the great empires in history have fallen into this way of life. At the end of the Roman Empire, all the people who were running to the Roman Empire – they were getting goods, just constantly feasting and eating and when they couldn’t eat anymore they went to throw up so they could go and eat again. And that’s like starting to infect the world with cancer. Let’s award each of them a tumulus to start spitting.
Isn’t the Western world currently that way?
The Western world is in great danger right now, precisely because of this consumerism. If the world doesn’t learn to live on a planet that has limited resources, with some people who have limited capabilities, to go and use up the resources to the point of exhaustion, that means it’s much scarier than all the previous dictators, totalitarians and all the wars combined. There will be many more victims because these are the victims of consumerism. This is a mortal danger. There are official statistics around the world that more people die from overeating than from starvation. There are too many diseases that are cured by fasting… The world must learn to fast. This is healthy.
Yes, but fasting requires effort, and consumerism is no effort at all, we often want to get things easily. Not to treat ourselves with effort, „but give a pill and take it according to some prescribed scheme“.
In physics there is a formula for the divine and the satanic, there is a formula for entropy. We from the academy went to Vienna to Volstmann’s grave, where this formula is hammered on the plaque. It’s generally a very cultured place, I recommend everyone to go ., to see it. Vienna Cemetery is probably the most beautiful park in Vienna. In an area of several dozen square meters are the graves of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms and a few meters further is the grave of Voltzmann. Shaped like an omega – it is the satanic beginning of the universe and the entropic beginning. This is the formula of over-consumption and letting the current drag you down. True life swims against the current – a trout goes up the river to reach the springs. And in the wide riverbeds you can see the carcass of a dead donkey, it’s the fruit of entropy. He who has let himself be dragged by the current of the river is like the carcass of a donkey – half dead. This is a sign of decay. It is a sign of decay of society.
What is the treatment for this disease in your opinion? How are you helping to cure this disease with the things you are doing?
He man must ask to be healed. One cannot be cured who does not want to be cured.
And maybe a natural process so the unhealthy must die
And perhaps a natural process so that what is unhealthy must die and what is healthy will remain what is not healthy will rot and what is new will remain what is healthier but it is desirable that our children be of those who will not participate in the rottenness we rotten process. And that’s why parents have to be in their place, because there are spiritual temptations that are just life-poisoning.
How to help current children to be creators to bring something good to this world? First they must be insulated from the propaganda of consumerism.
How can this be achieved Well for example in China there are filters on the internet no porn site can pass through these filters. Australia-a democratic country also has filters on the internet porn site also can’t get through it people protect their children If we don’t learn to protect our children, no one else will go to protect them for us. And it is natural to say as much as we care about the children in say a country in Africa. We must have responsibility to our own children Because no one else has been caring for them and to have the courage not to rush to buy them a smartphone phone to make restrictions on the Internet on the computer so that they can not pass things that are not suitable for them and to require the state to put such laws to save the children everything destructive must be isolated from the child so that It can at least the age that can not yet withstand the temptations to be isolated from these temptations.
